Indianapolis Truck Accidents
Indianapolis’ key and auxiliary highways and major intersections are so busy, they’re often the site of local auto accidents. Truck traffic is also rising in the local area, which increases the risk of serious accidents. In 2018, there were more than 31,350 accidents on Indianapolis roads. These accidents accounted for roughly 85% of all road accidents in Marion County.
In August 2020, a 71-year-old woman died after her Jeep collided with a local fire truck responding to a call out. The accident occurred at around 11 a.m. at the intersection of Southern Avenue and Shelby Street. The Jeep became attached to the fire truck’s windshield and traveled with it for roughly 100 feet before disengaging from the windshield and traveling another 100 feet. Doctors pronounced the elderly woman dead on her arrival at Eszenski Hospital. The firefighter was treated for facial lacerations at Indiana Health Methodist Hospital.
That same month, a motorcyclist died after his bike collided with a pickup truck on the highway. The collision occurred in the westbound lanes of I-465, west of I-65. Good Samaritans performed CPR on the pair, but the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The pickup driver required hospital treatment for minor injuries.
What Should I Do After a Truck Accident?
Thinking clearly after a truck accident can be scary, but keeping your wits about you and following logical steps is important. Firstly, call the police. Do not speak to the other driver or anyone else until they arrive. While you’re waiting for them to arrive, take photos of the scene with your cell phone. These photos can become evidence if you pursue a personal injury lawsuit. They can also help you remember details about the crash scene. Once the police are on the scene, describe what happened as accurately and objectively as you can. The police will write a report and a citation to the party at fault.
Exchange information with the truck driver at the scene. You’ll need their name and phone number, insurance details, license plate number, and driver’s license number. If they work for a trucking company, make sure you get the business’s name and contact details. The company may be at fault, so you need these details for prosecution.
Even if you feel OK, seek medical attention as soon as you leave the scene. Shock and adrenaline can mask your pain, so it’s important to get a thorough check-up to make sure you’re alright. Getting any injuries documented immediately will also help you file an accident claim.
Finally, contact an experienced legal firm like Alvarez Law. We can help you negotiate with the other party’s employer and insurance company and get the compensation you deserve.
How Much Does It Cost to Hire a Truck Accident Attorney?
As truck accidents are so complex, with drivers, their employers, and their insurance companies often involved, the rates truck accident attorneys charge can vary significantly. For your peace of mind though, some legal firms including Alvarez Law don’t have any upfront fees. You’re entitled to free consultations, where you can tell the lawyer about your case and learn more about the fee structure. Costs associated with your case will influence the final fee. However, our no win, no fee policy can help you proceed with your case with confidence.

Truck and Car Accident Settlements

Settlement amounts vary depending on case details and the severity of the victim’s injuries. However, in the past Alvarez Law has helped victims of truck and car accidents receive life-changing settlement amounts. The victim of a motor vehicle accident who needed back and neck surgery after being rear-ended received $1.5 million. After a bus driver admitted to texting before his vehicle crashed into another, we helped the parents of a teen passenger receive an $800,000 settlement. Other truck and car accidents led to settlements of half a million dollars.
