Whether you’re visiting on vacation or living locally, Crown Point, Indiana, has some great activities to keep you entertained during the summer. You can explore a bit of the area’s history, play a round of golf, or relax at one of the several festivals held in Bulldog Park. Here are some summer activity recommendations for you put together by our team of local experts at Alvarez Law.
Crown Point Car Cruise
Every Thursday evening from the beginning of June to late September, classic car enthusiasts can take part in the Crown Point Car Cruise. The event is held downtown in Bulldog Park and generally runs from 4:15 to 8 p.m. If you want to bring along your own classic car to the Franciscan Health Pavilion, you can do so from 3 p.m. on the day of the cruise. Those of you just going along to admire some of the antique cars will find live music and plenty of local food options to enjoy.
Bulldog Park has several additional exciting activities for you to discover while you’re in the area. On hot days, you can cool off in the splash pad or relax at the park’s seating area. Bulldog Park also has two fire pits, which you may want to make use of if you’re visiting later in the evening. The park also plays host to a weekly concert series throughout the summer months. Concerts generally take place on Saturday evenings.
Lake County Fair
The annual highlight of the summer is the Lake County Fair, which takes place for 10 days every August. Fairground rides, a wide variety of food, and horse shows are some of the prominent attractions during the fair. Pigs, cattle, and other animals are also showcased at the event.
Even if you’re not able to make it to the Lake County Fair, the fairgrounds are still well worth visiting. Throughout the year, they host a range of festivals, live music events, and other community activities. The fairgrounds are also a great place to go jogging, fishing, or for a stroll. You can rent various buildings for events, such as a wedding or birthday party. The Lake County Fairgrounds are open 365 days a year and are free to enter.
Old Lake County Courthouse

The Old Lake County Courthouse sits at the center of Crown Point’s downtown square. This building has a lot of history for you to explore. The building was constructed in 1878 and gained notoriety as the “marriage mill” due to the fact that Lake County didn’t require a waiting period for marriage licenses.
You can learn more about the history of the local area by investigating the Lake County Historical Society’s museum, which is on the second floor of the courthouse. The museum is open May through October. Local volunteers play a big part in maintaining the museum. In fact, it was the intervention of Crown Point citizens in the early 1970s that prevented the courthouse from being razed to the ground to make way for a car park. In 1973, their efforts resulted in the courthouse being placed on the National Register of Historic Buildings.
On the ground floor of the courthouse, a full redesign has created space for several exciting stores. You can explore what they have to offer while wandering the brick passageways of this 19th-century building. If you feel like taking a break during your visit, there are plenty of restaurants nearby to choose from for lunch or dinner.
Lemon Lake County Park
On a hot summer’s afternoon, Lemon Lake County Park is a great place to visit with the whole family. Spanning 402 acres, it boasts a playground for the kids, an open dog park for your pets, and five disc golf courses for people of all ages to have some fun. Numerous walking trails crisscross their way through the park, providing you with ample opportunity to take in the scenery.
You can reserve a picnic table or shelter at the park if you’ll be visiting with a group. There are also barbecue facilities where you can prepare your own food. If you enjoy playing sports, you’ll find two sand volleyball courts and an open playing field for games of soccer, football, or anything else you like. The park also offers some organized events, which you can explore on its online calendar. One of the regular activities provided is a guided walk of the park to discover the variety of bird species that live there.
Play a Round of Golf
Crown Point has two 18-hole courses for you to test your skills on. The Oak Knoll Golf Club offers you the chance to play a nine- or 18-hole round on a course described by the club as offering “an easy layout with wide fairways, two drivable par fours, relaxed play, and a friendly staff to help make your day enjoyable.” The course’s rates are low, with an 18-hole round and a cart costing $28 or $15 walking. If you like more of a challenge for your game, contact the club about their leagues, which play the course Monday through Thursday.
The second option is the White Hawk Country Club, which is home to 36 holes of championship-quality golf. You can dine in or order takeout food at the River Rock restaurant after you’ve played a round and get any golf accessories you require at the club shop. They also offer event registrations if you’d like to book something in advance.
